Ready for a dip?

NH MOOSE - 2011
Photo taken by a local NH resident

A once in a lifetime shot....this mama moose cools her babies in a private swimming pool!

FACTS:
The origin of the word "MOOSE" is thought of to be from "mus" or "Moos" of the Alonquian (North American Indian) family of languages thought to mean "easter of twigs"

Want to hear what a moose sounds like? Visit the Following Link:

Moose are BIG. An adult moose averages around 1,000 pounds and stands 6 feet at the shoulder and 8-10 feet long. It is the largest land animal in NH. We see moose daily, weekly and monthly at our Bretton Woods office and surrounding areas. They like to live solitary or in small groups and enjoy wetland areas where they can feed and enjoy the woodland surround. They are great swimmers and can remain underwater for about a minute. Their diet consists of local vegetation such as leaves, branches and twigs, water and marsh plants. In a normal day, a moose will consume an average of 45 lbs of food. Compare that to your diet! They get their exercise by trotting along at a speed as fast as 35 miles per hour. That's FAST!

Visit The New Hampshire Fish & Game website for more information:

We hope you have the please of seeing one from a distance during your NH stay ....don't get too close!
